Looking for a Natural Food Spot in Buenos Aires? The Natural Deli is both a Deli and a Restaurant in BA’s Recoleta
Buenos Aires has a lot to offer, but it also does nothing for the waistline. Sweet breakfasts and snacks abound. However, there is one answer to a girl's figure fears.
The Natural Deli on Laprida in Recoleta is one of Buenos Aires’ best kept secrets. It is both a Deli and a Restaurant that serves up some very healthy food, wholesome snacks and little treats that are made slightly less indulgent because they are produced with unrefined products. A Breakdown of The Natural Deli´s Menu - Breakfasts, Desserts and Evening PlattersBy far, the best sweet selection on the menu is their muffins. They serve apple or forest fruits, both mixed with almonds and full-grain oats. Or, slightly more devilish are their white and dark chocolate muffins. The muffins themselves are huge and easily replace an entire meal. Therefore, it’s probably best to share one and eat something a little most substantial or take one home and enjoy it throughout the course of the day with a few coffees. The breakfasts are the next best thing to try on the menu. They serve up some excellent scrambled eggs on toast, or boiled eggs with soldiers. The yoghurt, granola and fresh fruit compot is another satisfying start to the day and there are many fruit juices, homemade lemonade or smoothies to choose from too. In the evenings, the Deli (originally only open during the day) has been recently doing so well that they now remain open to serve ‘platos de la noche.’ (Night platters). These night platters are comprised of a variety of ‘picadas,’ the Argentine word to describe a small platter or cold meats, olives and cheeses, usually served with bread. These platos are accompanied by a bottle of red wine (always of high quality) and a choice of dessert. It is an excellent place to go to after an evening that has finished slightly earlier than normal; after a night at the cinema, for example. It is a very chilled out, comfortable place, with superb service and (at night) a romantic atmosphere, although it doesn’t give that vibe during the day. Lots of surprises in The Natural Deli. What They Sell in the Deli Section of The Natural DeliOn top of the restaurant, the Deli itself is one of those few places in Buenos Aires where it is possible to buy natural yoghurt, stronger spices such as chile, soya sauce, stuffed vine leaves and particular types of imported tea. The prices are obviously more expensive, but there’s no competition elsewhere and so there’s not a lot to be done on that score. Argentines Eat a lot of Sugar - The Natural Deli steps away from this lifestyleLiving in Buenos Aires means joining a lifestyle of medialunas (sweet croissants) and facturas (danish pastries full of jam, custard and dulce de leche) for breakfast. Signing up to this lifestyle is tempting and easily done, but takes its toll on the body. Better to get a little respite every now and then from The Natural Deli’s healthier approach to life.
